What Are OTC Benefit Cards?
OTC benefit cards - sometimes called health spending or flex cards - are provided through participating Medicare Advantage and other health plans. Depending on the member’s plan, these cards may be used for eligible products such as:
- Over-the-counter medications
- Vitamins and supplements
- First-aid supplies
- Dental and personal-care products
- Household essentials
- Healthy foods and groceries
Eligible items and available benefit amounts are determined by each customer’s health plan.
Integrated OTC Card Processing
GLDS offers point-of-sale solutions with integrations for leading OTC benefit networks, including InComm Healthcare and NationsBenefits. The system can identify eligible products during checkout and apply available benefits to qualifying purchases.
If a customer’s basket includes both eligible and noneligible products, the transaction can be separated so the OTC benefit is applied to approved items and the customer can use another payment method for the remaining balance.
